Here at Beyond the Box Score, we're not above patting ourselves on the back ... when it's warranted. Well, today is one of those times.
We're excited to announce that two current staff writers at BtB have scored coveted finalist spots for the 2013 SABR Analytics Research Awards!
Lewie Pollis was recognized for a piece here at this site -- Did Hall of Fame's Founders Want Voters To Judge With Their Eyes? -- as one of the finalists for the Contemporary Commentary award this year.
Not to be outdone, regular fixture here at Beyond the Boxscore Glenn DuPaul was also a finalist for his piece, Controlling the Strike Zone and Batting Average, over at The Hardball Times. His piece will be up for the Contemporary Analysis award.
And, last but definitely not least, two prominent former contributors here at the site, Bill Petti and Jeff Zimmerman, have been recognized for their work at FanGraphs: on Pitcher Aging Curves: An Introduction. Their piece was also a finalist in the category of Contemporary Analysis.
Next week, you'll be able to vote on these (and other) pieces of commentary and analysis at SABR, The Hardball Times, Baseball Prospectus, and FanGraphs. For now, let's hear it for the fine folks here at the site, for their tremendous work this year!
EDITED: The entire list of finalists can be found here.
