I got into a deep discussion today about whether or not a pitch can be two different pitches. Crazy right? The discussion got so deep, that one of the best writers I know simply asked me, "what is the definition of a pitch?"
So while I was thinking long and hard as to what could be the answer to his question, I wondered if there even is an answer? Personally, I think a pitch is everything. The moment the ball leaves the pitchers hand, the whole entire game could change. Every statistic given to every single player could become completely defunct if one pitch by any pitcher wasn't thrown. Well, if there is an answer to the question, I'm sure you'll find it here! The Pitch Cloud involves every outcome that could happen after a pitch is thrown or simply the fallout of any given pitch.
