The Yankees are who we thought they were?
Great few paragraphs from Rob Neyer (why can't more MSM guys be like this) highlighting that the historic 4 WS in 5 years Yankee teams of 1996-2000 averaged 97 wins a year. While the sucky, gross, loser 0 WS in the last 8 seasons teams have averaged ... 97 wins a year.
If you've got the stomach for it check out the comments section, which I think is one of the better ones for an ESPN article.

Obviously the dynasty years had players with more heart and winning attitudes.

What's funny is that the dynasty years DID include players who were clutch in the playoffs.
I mean, that’s how you win games in the playoffs. But, well, yeah, you know what my point is.

most underrated Yankee from those years from today's perspective
I’m going to go with Bernie. Over the “dynasty years” as a whole, the best hitter (yes, I know about Jeter’s 1999), not a defensive wiz, but we (I) don’t have the numbers to know how bad, almost certainly better than his horrible “bUZR era” seasons. Memory marred by the last few “hanging on too long” seasons.
Probably as good as Kirby Puckett, although he probably won’t get into Hall due to not being the total price Puckett was. Especially with the ladies.

I imagine Rob would really have strong words for that moron
who has the dynasty as the third greatest team of all-time, then.
