Morning Mound Visit: Yadier Molina signs one-year extension with Cardinals

Yadi extended; Doolittle DFA’d; The Orioles. Yikes.

MLB: St. Louis Cardinals at Pittsburgh Pirates Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Zachary Silver | MLB.com: Yadier Molina signed a one-year extension with the St. Louis Cardinals. Molina will make $10 million in 2022. John Mozeliak issued a statement that made it sound like Molina intends to retire after next season and this will be a farewell tour, but that hasn’t been confirmed.

Wick Terrell | Red Reporter: Sean Doolittle was designated for assignment on Tuesday. Doolittle had signed a one-year deal with Cincinnati, and he had a 4.55 FIP through 38 13 innings.

Drew Bonifant | Camden Chat: The Orioles have now lost 19 straight. This is perhaps the most miserable stretch of Oriole baseball in the franchise’s history, and manager Brandon Hyde has lost his cool a bit. Hyde wasn’t given a winning ball club by the front office, but does he share some blame for how bad things have gotten?

Quick Hits

Manny Machado very nearly hit a go-ahead home run, but AJ Pollock had other plans.

José Abreu hit a three-run homer in the first inning, and that was all the White Sox needed to beat the Blue Jays.

The Brewers erased a three-run deficit ultimately taking the lead with a double from Omar Narváez.
