Zac Gallen’s improved cutter; the Yankees/Dodgers and the hit to parity; the Twins add Maeda

MLB: New York Yankees at Los Angeles Dodgers Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

FanGraphs | Michael Augustine: Zac Gallen is already an excellent addition to the Diamondbacks’ staff, and he absolutely has the stuff to be a mid-rotation starter, or even an ace. But with the improvement of his cutter with better command and spin, it could be the key that unlocks that potential.

Baseball Prospectus | Rob Arthur ($): Based on Vegas odds and PECOTA projections, the median win projections for the Dodgers and Yankees are absolutely astounding, at around 100+ wins apiece. That usually never happens, and shows that in 2020, parity will take yet another hit as the best teams get better while many rebuild.

The Ringer | Michael Baumann: The main reason the Twins sputtered out in the postseason last year was because they had essentially no starting pitchers to face the Yankees, and the results were as such. Now they’ve made a serious improvement as part of the Mookie Betts trade by acquiring Kenta Maeda, which shores up their rotation in a way necessary for a serious contender.
