The bright spot of Liam Hendriks; the A’s s*** not working in the playoffs; the specter of the Dodgers bullpen

MLB: AL Wild Card-Tampa Bay Rays at Oakland Athletics Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

FanGraphs | Rian Watt: Despite pitching a single inning in a total failure of a wild card game, and starting yet another one last year, Liam Hendriks is still a bright spot for an Athletics team that has a lot to be sad about this morning. Hendriks will certainly be a 2020 feature of a bullpen that could have collapsed without him.

Baseball Prospectus | Jeffrey Paternostro: The Athletics have now lost nine straight elimination games, despite their analytical bent and all eyes being on in-game strategy in these type of games, wild card games in particular. Maybe it makes Billy Beane regret that one line from Moneyball, or maybe it’s just bad bounce after bad bounce for eternity.

The Ringer | Michael Baumann: The Dodgers are the favorite to win the NL pennant, but their bullpen is still going to be an issue. If Kenley Jansen isn’t healthy or good there isn’t much they can do, but Dave Roberts can get creative by using pitchers like Rich Hill or Kenta Maeda in relief to supplement.
