FanGraphs | Craig Edwards: The Cubs made another teeny addition, this time for Brad Brach at one year and $3 million with a club option for 2020. Considering he has a career 77 ERA- and hasn’t had a below-average season since 2012, it seems like a steal.
Baseball Prospectus | Matthew Trueblood ($): Which hitters are the best against good pitching? With getting on base, it’s someone like Anthony Rizzo. For a team like the Dodgers, who just signed AJ Pollock, they’ll be happy to know that he has the most high-value contact against good pitchers. Teams are just starting to break down pitcher/hitter match-ups, and the ones who work best against good pitching are obviously the most valuable.
The Athletic | Eno Sarris ($): One more thing on Pollock and the Dodgers. It’s definitely an upgrade for them, even without Yasiel Puig, because he offers better baserunning and defense, with the potential of adding even more power considering his improved launch angles. It’s more money over the long haul, sure, but the AAV against the luxury tax is well within the team’s limits.
