Morning Mound Visit: Charlie Morton carries Atlanta to Game 1 win on broken leg

Okay, the bullpen did most of the work, but it’s still impressive.

Kris Willis | Talking Chop: Atlanta took Game 1 of the World Series thanks to early home runs from Jorge Soler and Adam Duvall. Charlie Morton only went 2 13 innings, but he threw 16 pitches pushing off the rubber with a broken leg. Atlanta’s bullpen stymied the Astros, and Atlanta cruised to a 6-2 win.

Marc Normandin | Baseball Prospectus $: The Collective Bargaining Agreement expires December 1, and it sure seems like we’re heading for a work stoppage despite Rob Manfred’s insistence that a deal will get done by the deadline.

William Metzger | The Crawfish Boxes: After his dominance in the ALCS, the Astros were disappointed to see Framber Valdez get knocked around in Game 1 of the World Series. Without Lance McCullers Jr., Houston’s starting pitching appears to be a problem.
