The Mets’ recent resurgence; the inevitability of a Pirates brawl; Trout’s category-based excellence

FanGraphs | Ben Clemens: The Mets?!?!?! After not dealing either Zack Wheeler or Noah Syndergaard at the deadline and in fact acquiring a starter in Marcus Stroman instead, they have no righted the ship, winning 15 of their last 20 and putting them on the path the contender. Maybe they should have tried to get the prospects, but if they do in fact make the postseason, their current strategy will be seen as a success to make the best of their current core.

Baseball Prospectus | Rob Arthur ($): The Pirates and Reds famously brawled last week, with Yasiel Puig in the fray while he was technically on another team. It seems like they are destined to meet again, or at least the Pirates with another team, due to their strategy of pitching inside and leading the league in HBPs.

The Ringer | Ben Lindbergh: The best thing about Mike Trout is that every year, he’s the best player in baseball in a different way. One year it may have been defense, or speed, and this year it’s power, and he may very well end up leading the league in home runs. Once he’s done that, he will have conquered almost every category in the books... including WAR.
