At this time of year, when we still have a few months to go until baseball truly returns, fans of America's pastime look to history for their entertainment. Early January brings the Hall of Fame vote, when ten-year members of the Baseball Writers Association of America pick the players they feel deserve enshrinement. With another crowded group this year — Ken Griffey,Trevor Hoffman, and others have joined the ballot — the electorate again must make some tough choices.
For the third year in a row, we at Beyond the Box Score would like to offer our readers the same opportunity. Below, you'll find a poll, featuring all 32 players on the current ballot. Like the BBWAA members, you can pick ten or fewer players to make it into the Hall of Fame.
Did you forget to study for this test? Don't worry — it's open-note. Below, you'll find:
- FanGraphs career statistics for batters on the ballot, as well as for all batters.
- FanGraphs career statistics for pitchers on the ballot, as well as for all pitchers.
- Baseball-Reference career statistics for everyone on the ballot, as well as for all players.
Click on through to see how the players compare to each other and where they rank historically. Once you feel informed — or if you already know enough about the players — cast your vote!
The poll will close at 6 PM Eastern on Wednesday, January 6th, when the official votes come out. On Friday, we'll publish the outcome of this election, along with that of our writer poll. Until then, you'll have the chance to make your voice heard. Please keep everything civil and reasonable, and stay tuned for the results.
