Sánchez’s season is over; White Sox interested in Trevor Story; Cubs sign a backup backstop

Christina De Nicola | MLB.com: Marlins pitcher Sixto Sánchez needs season-ending surgery to repair a small tear in the posterior capsule of his right shoulder. Sánchez originally hoped to make his 2021 debut in September, but this setback means he won’t be ready until spring training in 2022.

Anthony Franco | MLB Trade Rumors: The Chicago White Sox need an infielder following Nick Madrigal’s injury. According to Bob Nightengale, they “have serious interest” in Trevor Story.

Al Yellon | Bleed Cubbie Blue: The Cubs signed Robinson Chirinos to a major league contract on Monday. Chirinos signed a minor league contract with the Yankees but never made the big league club before his release on Sunday. Chirinos last played at the major league level for the Mets and Rangers in 2020. Combined, he hit just .162/.232/.243, but he only got into 26 games.
