MLB: NLCS-Los Angeles Dodgers at Atlanta Braves Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Welcome to ‘Marty’s Musings’, my weekly column of numbers summarizing the happenings in the baseball world. I am your guide for taking an analytic look at the news and notes throughout the game, and highlighting key pitching matchups.

Last week was a quiet one at Spring Training.

News & Notes

15 - MLB seasons for Nick Markakis who announced his retirement last week. Markakis spent his career with the Orioles and then the Braves. Over his decade-and-a-half in the Majors, he totaled over 2800 hits.

12.5 - Months since Yankees’ starter Luis Severino had his Tommy John surgery. Severino threw off a mound for the first time since his surgery and is hoping to be ready for games by this summer.

17 - Days until the planned Opening Day!
