Matt_Collins | Over the Monster: A day after trading away Andrew Benintendi, the Red Sox signed Marwin González to a one-year deal worth $3 million. González has mostly been an average hitter throughout his career, but he’s coming off a disastrous 2020 in which he mustered just a 66 wRC+.
Jacob Markle | Bless You Boys: The Tigers signed Nomar Mazara to a one-year, $1.75 million deal on Thursday. Like González, Mazara is another average hitter coming off a poor year. Mazara hit .228/.295/.294 in 2020, and even if the season weren’t shortened, he likely wouldn’t have hit his requisite 20 home runs.
Al Yellon | Bleed Cubbie Blue: If that wasn’t enough outfielders signing one-year deals for you, then Jake Marisnick also signed a one-year deal with the Cubs. Marisnick’s contract is worth a guaranteed $1 million in 2021 with a $4 million mutual option for 2022. Marisnick hit well in 2020, but he only got into 16 games.
