Ben Fadden | Gaslamp Ball: The Padres found their replacement for Jayce Tingler in A’s manager Bob Melvin. Melvin agreed to a three-year contract with San Diego after the A’s granted him permission to interview for the job. The Dads’ new skipper spent 11 years in Oakland and led the A’s to six postseason berths. Oakland’s decision to let Melvin pursue other opportunities has fueled speculation that the A’s are about to tear the roster down.

David Adler | MLB.com: Gold Glove finalists were announced on Thursday. Winners will be announced on November 7. The Fielding Bible Awards are typically announced following the World Series so be on the lookout for those as well.

Derek Rhoads and Rob Mains | Baseball Prospectus: BP added another injury tracking feature on Thursday. The Four-Year Injury Map looks at all IL stints from the last four years separated by body parts. The Padres, for instance, had 11 elbow-related injuries in 2021.
