Morning Mound Visit: Vaccination rollout could be tricky for MLB

MLB’s messy vaccination situation; A Yankees roster crunch; Baseball America’s Top 100

Hannah Keyser | Yahoo Sports: With vaccination distribution lagging behind in the United States, it’s increasingly unlikely that MLB players and employees will all be vaccinated by Opening Day. Logistical logjams have thrown into question whether the league can distribute vaccines to personnel or if players should seek out vaccinations independently.

Dan Kelly | Pinstripe Alley: The addition of Corey Kluber and the return of DJ LeMahieu have created a bit of a 40-man roster crunch for the Yankees. Dan Kelly explored what options the Yankees have to create space and who might be cut as a result.

Baseball America $: Baseball America released it’s Top 100 prospects list yesterday. Of note: Ian Anderson and Cristian Pache cracked the Top 10 for Atlanta. Tarik Skubal and Spencer Torkelson jumped ahead of Casey Mize for Detroit. The Royals placed four prospects in the Top 100 for the first time since 2015.

And just because teams decided to make trades and sign a bunch of pitchers after I already scheduled this, here’s a rundown on transactions from yesterday.

MTPeterson | Gaslamp Ball: The Padres acquired Joe Musgrove in a three-team trade with the Pirates and Mets. The Mets are getting left-handed pitcher Joey Lucchesi. The Pirates are getting a gaggle of prospects from the Padres and Mets both. San Diego is sending Hudson Head, David Bednar, Omar Cruz, and Drake Fellows while the Mets are sending Endy Rodriguez.

Patrick Reddington | Federal Baseball: The Nationals signed Jon Lester to a one-year deal with a mutual option for 2022.

Tom Dakers | Bluebird Banter: The Blue Jays signed Tyler Chatwood to a one-year deal, $3 million deal.
