Here’s some updates from around baseball.
- The big news of the day is obviously the word that New York Mets co-ace Noah Syndergaard will require Tommy John surgery and miss all of 2020. The late start to the MLB season as a result of the coronavirus had clearly made the season itself a question mark anyway, but of course Thor’s loss is nonetheless a big blow to a Queens team with designs on a postseason run based on a strong rotation with Syndergaard, tw-time Cy Young winner Jacob deGrom, and Marcus Stroman.
- Also notable is the fact that Syndergaard’s injury is so severe that reconstructing his elbow is considered medically necessary and not elective, and thus will occur despite the current ban on elective surgeries in Florida as a result of the ongoing pandemic.
- At True Blue LA, Eric Stephen looks back at Clayton Kershaw’s historic 2014 start down under. Kershaw was his usual brilliant self before becoming injured, but the start was more notable for being the Dodgers’ first ever game in Australia.
- Here’s a fun post that I highly recommend: Brittney Bush wrote for Lookout Landing about how she worked out with Minnesota Twins Designated Hitter Nelson Cruz. Not in person per se, but she did copy his workout - and now you can too.
