FanGraphs | Jake Mailhot: The Mariners signed Yoshihisa Hirano to a one-year, $1.6 million deal, an interesting move after his 11-year NPB career and two seasons with the Diamondbacks, and he could end up being good trade bait for the trade-happy Jerry Dipoto; the increased use of his splitter could also make him a higher upside reliever for 2020.

Baseball Prospectus | Lucas Apostoleris ($): While the free agent market has been lively, there have been fewer trades, and fewer high-value trades, at any point this far over the past decade, and it’s pretty odd considering Francisco Lindor, Kris Bryant, Nolan Arenado, and Mookie Betts rumors float around daily.

The Athletic | Ken Rosenthal ($): Speaking of which: a trade of, say, Bryant or Arenado into the NL East would absolutely change the race. The top four teams are separated by just five or so wins by the projections, meaning a solid deal could make a prospective fourth-place team a division winner.
