The Rays’ and Cards’ trade; down on Los Angeles

MLB: Winter Meetings Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports

FanGraphs | Ben Clemens: The Rays made an interesting trade with St. Louis, swapping top pitching prospect Matthew Liberatore, Edgardo Rodriguez, and a Competitive Balance Round B pick in exchange for Randy Arozarena, José Martínez, and a Competitive Balance Round A pick. Both teams are looking for something different; the Cardinals were looking for a good pitching prospect, while the Rays were down on him. The Rays wanted a big league pice in Martínez, and they see Arozarena as undervalued.

ESPN Insider | Bradford Doolittle ($): Fans of justifiably upset with the Dodgers, missing out on a title and now sitting in the back third in free agency spending. But the team was still in on the big players and they’re known to be patient, so expect them not just to fold considering how good their regular seasons have been over the last decade.
