How Zack Wheeler complicates the already-complicated Mets; the recent stretch from the Giants; trade target primer

MLB: New York Yankees at New York Mets Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

FanGraphs | Jay Jaffe: The Mets were never going to get a massive haul at the trade deadline, but the injury to Zack Wheeler hasn’t helped whatsoever. Now dealing with shoulder fatigue now labeled an impingement, the bigger concern is his 2019 performance right now, and not his long-term health. For a team caught in the middle, the Mets have little to even leverage for modest returns.

Baseball Prospectus | Rob Mains ($): The Giants have been one of the best teams in baseball since Memorial Day, so... what’s up? Can it sustain itself? Probably not, as PECOTA projects just a .400 winning percentage moving forward. That being said, the team does showcase enough talent to be a silver lining for the future.

The Ringer | Michael Baumann: Here’s a good primer on a list of possible trade targets, ranging from relievers like Ken Giles or Shane Greene, to bats like José Abreu or Justin Smoak, or starters like Marcus Stroman, Trevor Bauer, or Zack Greinke.
