A Look at the Braves at the Halfway Mark

We're at the midpoint of the season and the Braves are sitting pretty at the top of the NL East. The team has a bit of room to make some moves before the trade deadline, and there are a number of storylines that Braves fans will want to keep track of.

First off, what moves should they consider, if any, before the deadline?

If they're looking to shore up their outfield, players like Clint Frazier and Mitch Haniger could bring fielding and depth to the lineup. The Braves will definitely want some pitching depth in their lineup going into the postseason.

Some of the pitching trade possibilities include left-handed closers like the Giants' Will Smith and the Nationals' Sean Doolittle. Some attractive right-handed pitching options include the Diamondbacks' Zack Greinke and the Blue Jays' Marcus Stroman.

They tried to grab Craig Kimbrel, who ended up on the Cubs. Time will tell what moves they plan to make to shore up their roster as the second half of the season approaches.

When it comes to how the roster currently stands, it's clear that the Braves have a number of bright spots that the club can hang their hats on.

For instance, Austin Riley has shown his offensive prowess and appears to be a threat any time he steps up to the plate. Most recently, he spoiled a shut out deep into the 9th inning and has been a base hit machine in the last few matchups.

To be so young in his career, and to already have 14 home runs, close to 40 RBI, and more than 30 runs of his own.

As with any aspect of major league baseball, a big part of the team's success hinges upon the farm club. When you have a solid farm club you'll always have a future. Right now, the Braves have one of the best farm systems in baseball.

They're definitely a team on the rise, and the baseball world is taking note. With Sun Trust Stadium hosting the All-Star game in 2021, sponsors are champing at the bit to get a piece of the franchise. Fans pack The Battery Atlanta for a unique experience each game, so imagine the spectacle that they'll experience a few summers from now.

The Gwinnett club is currently playing lights out baseball, having racked up wins against the Indianapolis Indians. The Mississippi Braves ball club is also having some success with their bullpen, including a couple of no-hitters recently.

It's important to keep an eye on how these developments play out so that you can have an idea about how the Braves move forward in the second half of the season. All indications point toward them being in the driver's seat, and in a great position to thrive well into the playoffs.
