Lance Lynn’s fWAR; pitchers changing their arsenal; the Ex-Rays

FanGraphs | Craig Edwards: Lance Lynn of all players is leading the American League in pitcher fWAR, and he’s done it by relying more on his cutter, and mixing up his repertoire with runners on base to induce groundballs.

Baseball Prospectus | Rob Arthur ($): Pitchers are changing their arsenals more than ever. While pitchers traditionally would rely on their fastball and an off-speed, it now diretly correlates to team and personal data lining up with which pitches work best, and then throwing them more. It’s why players like Trevor Bauer or Adam Ottavino can respond in real-time when they have their own pitch lab to changes in their own velocity and mechanics.

The Ringer | Michael Baumman: Welcome to the Ex-Rays, an absolutely insane idea pitched by the Rays and MLB to have the team split time between Tampa in the first half, and Montreal in the second after their stadium lease expires after 2027. While Montreal wants and certainly deserves a second chance, this does not seem like the right bet. It seems, on its face, a ruse to get one, or even two, publicly funded stadiums.
