Jordan Luplow’s platoon skill; Nomar Mazara’s improvements; the tragic Indians

MLB: Texas Rangers at Boston Red Sox Brian Fluharty-USA TODAY Sports

FanGraphs | Devan Fink: Jordan Luplow is a bright spot in an otherwise disappointing Indians crew, and his rise from being under-used with the Pirates is welcome. With a new swing and approach and more at-bat’s against left-handers, we’re seeing an excellent platoon bat come into form.

Baseball Prospectus | Matthew Trueblood ($): Nomar Mazara is hitting .267/.319/.445, and it’s a big reason why the Rangers have been better this season. Mazara is improved thanks to a new stance and more aggressive approach, and his small gains from top prospect to steadily better big leaguer are finally paying off.

The Ringer | Michael Baumann: The 2019 Indians have been struck by tragedy in multiple ways, but their own actions didn’t help. They couldn’t control whether Corey Kluber would get hurt or the Twins would be this good, but their tight payroll margin did not even allow them the depth for complementary pieces that would have been important in a year like this.
