Tim Beckham’s possible resurgence; José Berríos’ abandonment of the sinker; Harper’s return to DC

MLB: Philadelphia Phillies at Washington Nationals Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

FanGraphs | Rian Watt: Tim Beckham, while putting up very solid numbers in 2017, tanked in 2018 and it led to his non-tender. He’s had an excellent week with the Mariners, though, and with his core muscle injury behind him and not trying too hard, it could very well be his year.

Baseball Prospectus | Matthew Trueblood ($): José Berríos is on the Twins, a very sinker-centric team, but that changed in his first start against the Royals. He generated a healthy number of whiffs on his curve, and the team looks to be transitioning him away from the less-effective sinker to a fastball/curve combo that works much better.

The Ringer | Claire McNear: Bryce Harper returned to Washington, DC, and it was full of rowdy fans, more fun and eccentric Harper behavior and a thwack of a home run, and a budding rivalry between the Nationals and Phillies that is absolutely great for the sport.
