FanGraphs | Michael Augustine: John Means was the best pitcher on an otherwise dreadful Orioles staff; is it possible he does it again in 2020? While metrics like FIP say regression because of his inability to strike hitters out, he has a variety of weapons where he can induce weak contact more than anything to survive and thrive.
Baseball Prospectus | Matthew Trueblood ($): DJ LeMahieu was a classic case of being undervalued because of Coors Field, where DRC+ showed he was probably a career league-average. There are other bargains for 2020 based on this as well, like Homer Bailey, Kole Calhoun, or Todd Frazier, who all rate highly by DRA/DRC+.
The Athletic | Marc Carig ($): Though the Astros’ sign-stealing is egregious, there are other instances that fall in a gray area. A Rays scout was ejected from a Yankees playoff game for recording from the bleachers for later use, but that rule isn’t enforced everywhere and some teams do tacitly condone it. Yet after this scandal, there will need to be consistent rules across the board.
