FanGraphs | Craig Edwards: Adam Wainwright signed a one-year, $5 million deal with $5 million in incentives with the Cardinals, which is kind of unsurprising given his second half and his slight renaissance with the increased use of the curve. Yet that’s no guarantee of success at his age, and if he fails, it could open the door for more question marks in St. Louis’ rotation.
Baseball Prospectus | Tyler Stafford ($): After Ken Rosenthal’s report that the Astros were using hidden cameras to steal signs, you can go back and hear instances where the actions were taken place. Either through bangs or noises or whistles, they could indicate key pitches which in a few instances mattered in a huge way.
The Athletic | Mark Simon ($): Free agents can help in a lot of ways, but defense is a big one, especially if the team in question is lacking. At the hot corner you could use someone like Josh Donaldson; in the outfield, Brett Gardner, Alex Gordon, or Jarrod Dyson would be useful. And even Dallas Keuchel as a pitcher would be a defensive upgrade over most.
