FanGraphs | Sheryl Ring: Dr. Lorena Martin was hired as director of high performance, and was let go, in her view, due to reporting to HR comments by management that were racist and sexist. Firing her for that reason would be unlawful due to the Civil Rights Act as well as Washington’s Human Rights Act. Unfortunately, a likely binding arbitration clause means that this issue will not allow a lawsuit and will be settled by a team arbitrator.
Baseball Prospectus | BP Staff: Big news: Baseball Prospectus was purchased by the site’s senior staff, meaning that this will be a Mom N’ Pop for the first time in years. This likely means that they will run it according to their own principles, not based on the whims of an external owner, and it also means there will be more changes to the site in the future. Looking forward to it!
The Ringer | Ben Lindbergh: There is going to be a lot of discussion regarding Joe Mauer’s Hall of Fame case, which is complicated but probably falls on the side of “definitely.” Even though much of his Twins mega-deal was not behind the plate, he still provided a ton of value on both sides of the ball, and he was one of the best players of all-time in Minnesota.
