FanGraphs | Craig Edwards: Carlos Beltran got a ring last year, and not a moment too soon... in his final big league game. What other vets could get a ring? Curtis Granderson, Andrew McCutchen, Ryan Braun, Giancarlo Stanton, and Nick Markakis are all some players that could get a ring after being established for many years, as well as pitchers like Clayton Kershaw and Chris Sale.
Baseball Prospectus | Rob Mains ($): Bill James has a World Series prediction tool much like Game Score, so what if we employed that to figure out playoff winners? The most likely outcome, with Mains’ updated version, is the Red Sox over the Brewers.
Tangotiger Blog | Tom Tango: xwOBA has been updated, because 2017’s model under-estimated how much power would be, and now with a drop and relying on the 2018 model, it over-estimated the value of batted balls relative to actual production.
The Ringer | Michael Baumann: Addison Russell was suspended for 40 games following Melisa Reidy’s blog post that led to an investigation concluding that he violated the domestic violence clause of the CBA. The suspension rings hollow both because it pales in comparison to the draconian PED suspension policy, and because nothing in an entertainment industry’s domestic violence policy will look anything like restorative justice. Domestic violence will always be difficult to prosecute, but it’s still baseball’s job to be better on the issue moving forward.
