If you follow Beyond the Box Score on twitter (as you should be doing), you may have caught wind sometime last week of the exciting news that we're launching a brand new podcast here at the site. And today, it's with great pleasure that we bring you the first episode of our new show, The Shift. What's with the name, you may ask? Well, first and foremost, we wanted this show to be its own entity, separate from the wonderful, but now retired BtBS Podcast most recently hosted by Blake Murphy. Once we had decided on that, we went through a variety of different names before landing on The Shift. The shift literally refers to a very modern, analytic defensive tactic, but it also can be applied to the movement from old school to new school thinking in the game.
On the podcast we will strive for the same thing we do for in our written content -- to bring you the best baseball analysis with a saber-slant, while also fostering a community of baseball enthusiasts that understand and appreciate the game with an analytic eye. I can tell you that Bryan, Stuart, and I are going to have a ton of fun with this, and we sincerely hope that you'll join in by listening and interacting with the show on a regular basis.
On our pilot show, we discussed:
- Who we are
- Qualifying offers: Who got them, who didn't, and what surprised us
- The Silver Slugger awards
- And much, much more!
For the time being, you can listen to the podcast using the options below, but we will have an iTunes feed very shortly for those of you that prefer your podcasts in that manner.
