I have been looking to create a football data set that is free and equivalent to retrosheet's baseball data set. I have not been able to find one for all previous seasons (if there is one that is on going, please let me know). I am going to put my best foot forward on creating a free one for everyone download.
Before I get started, I need to see what information people would be interested in with the data. I would love to add all the players on the field and general alignments, but that information, for now would be too hard to generate for me.

General rules I want to follow:
- If the data can be created from other data in the data line, like completion percentage, the data will not added to the line.
- I will find a way to add more complex plays such as a person that catches a pass, they lateral's to someone else and they score a TD.
- If everything seems OK, I will do a game or two, compile the data, make it available and see how the data works.
- Most of the data in Season and Game tables will be generated from the plays tables. I know this data is a little redundant, but it will make it easy to work with.
