In 2008, Lyle Overbay and Gregg Zaun were on the same team in Toronto. Zaun is in Milwaukee now, but they have been together at the bottom of offensive leaderboards for much of the season. They're still there, because, well, they both started the season horribly.
But both projected to be respectable hitters coming into the season, and they appear to be remembering that after a few weeks of slumber.
Overbay, first 16 games: 7-for-59, 3 2B, 1 3B, 3 RBI, 7 BB, 19 K, WPA: -0.780
Overbay, last 3 games: 6-for-12, 2 2B, 2 HR, 6 RBI, 2 BB, 3 K, WPA: +0.390
Zaun, first 11 games: 6-for-45, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 2 BB, 4 K, WPA: -0.922
Zaun, last 3 games: 6-for-10, 3 2B, 6 RBI, 2 BB, 1 K, WPA: +0.192
A couple days ago, it looked pretty easy to start calling for the heads of these guys, when the fans would rather see guys like Randy Ruiz and George Kottaras. But the past few days? These two have done more in the past three games than they did the first three weeks of the season.
