Torres to the Brewers

The Brewers just keep adding to that bullpen, after signing David Riske to help pad the hole left by free agents Scott Linebrink (White Sox) and Francisco Cordero (Reds) the Brew crew traded for Salomon Torres and appear to be close to signing Eric Gagne. We'll cover the Torres deal here and wait on the Gagne deal to become official.

Torres is 35 now, in fact he made his debut in 1993 with the Giants, so he's came quite a ways, but since 2002 has been a Pittsburgh Pirate and had found a home there, having his four best seasons while wearing the eye-patch. The only stat with true fluke potential would be Torres' increased HR/FB%, which went from below 9% the last three years to 13% this year, his highest since 17.6% in 2003, his other horrendous Pirates' season.

Last year wasn't too friendly to Torres, and I don't mean his ERA which was over 5, but rather a nasty situation with the Pirates which lead Torres to request a trade, he finally got it, and the Brewers give up two minor league arms in Marino Salas and Kevin Roberts.  The problem with this from the Brewers' perspective is apparently Torres is thinking about retiring, which would leave them with nothing to show for the two prospects.

Looking at their pen they have quite a few interchangeable parts in the pen: Guillermo Moto, Riske, Torres, Turnbow, Carlos Villanueva, Brian Shouse, Matt Wise, and potentially Eric Gagne. Only six or seven can make the team, leaving two of them on the outs - seemingly suggesting a trade could be made, perhaps that Scott Rolen deal that's been tossed around?
