Hank Blalock Profile at BP

My most recent player profile was posted over at Baseball Prospectus, this time on Hank Blalock. Blalock is an interesting player in a great deal of ways; he seems to have had a great deal of success on the surface level, but once you dive in a bit, he really has never done all that much to warrant all of the attention.

He's struggled to develop power at almost every level, except for in 2001 in Charlotte and Tulsa. Charlotte's park factor for homeruns was 1.56 from 2003-2005 (I know, it's not for the 2001 season, this is pretty much a guess since I can't get a hold of homerun factors for 2001, but the overall ones seem consistent enough for government work) and Tulsa was a 1.19 (thanks to Dan Szymborski's park factor list over at BTF for those nuggets of info).

I basically think (and have thought for awhile, although not in this much detail) that Hank Blalock was and is severely overrated. His drop isn't as severe as we thought, because he was never that great in the first place.
