I should mention that with

two early years above 5.0 WAR under his belt (in his first 4!), Pedroia is on my “embarrassingly too early to say but I will anyway: Hall of Fame” list.

It's great.

Such an underrated position. It also makes me want to go get a orange/mango/kiwi smoothie.

Todays lesson?

Chase Utley is AWESOME, and we still don’t realize that often enough. That’s an almost Pujols-ian gap between Utley and the competition.

Is he Albert? No.. But damn, he’s good.

I don't know, he might actually be 2B's Albert.

That much power combined with that much lateral movement (fielding, I presume) is so damn rare. Power MI’s are always my favorite players.

I just remember two years ago in the World Series, against Sabathia...

Utley was absolutely crushing the ball off of Sabathia. My faulty memory says that in the first two CC starts, Utley hit two home runs, and in the third, he hit a ringing double off the top of the same wall.

I turned to my roommate and said, “Well, CC kept him in the park. That’s an improvement.”

.

Please note: The word “improvement” is purely observational, and should not be taken as any indication of Yankee-fandom, implied or otherwise.

Non-saber-initiated Sox fans love Pedroia because he's "little" and "scrappy" and "hard nosed"

I don’t think they realize he’s one of the best players on the planet.

Gorgeous graph, man. And I love Pedroia.

And non Sox fans, SABR or no...

take little and scrappy to mean whiny and annoying.

Which makes the fact he’s such a good player even worse.
