What is some good SABR reading?
Hi all, this is my first post here which is why you have never heard of me. I'll give a little background info to start off. I am an 18 year old senior in HS who has been reading and talking about sabermetrics for two years now. I am a huge baseball and just recently have discovered sabermetrics.
. I consider myself pretty knowledgeable in the field and have my own blog. I don't feel right spamming it so if you want the link let me know. Anyway, I want to dive even deeper into sabermetrics, some topics I'm interested in are pitch f/x, $/WAR (even though I've attempted it in the past) and understanding WPA. I'm sure there's a lot more out there that I don't know about though. This site seems great and I've read it off and on. If any of you know some great articles, posts, books, etc that would help me understand sabermetrics even more that'd be much appreciated. -Alex

Welcome, MauerFan!
I’d love to see some of your writing. If you’d like to make a fanpost, be my guest. The good ones will make the front page, the great ones get me bangin’ on your door.

1. First of all, SABR and sabermetrics are two decidedly different things. The former is a club of amazingly awesome baseball nerds. I’ve been to a meeting and it has essentially nothing to do with sabermetrics, but it is a fun time and should be considered for most hardcore fans. So my point is, if you’re asking about good SABERMETRIC reading, here goes:
2. Beyond the Box Score (you’re here!), FanGraphs, Baseball Prospectus, The BOOK, The Hardball Times.
3. My number 1 recommendation to every writer is to read everything, especially stuff that conflicts with your assumptions. Soak in everything you can, and offset it with more stuff on a completely different topic (politics/history/entertainment/culture/etc).
4. You should be reading the following anyway: Joe Posnanski, Jeff Passan, Rob Neyer, Rany Jazayerli.

See below for what I meant to do.
I am an avid reader of FanGraphs, that’s my favorite website. I haven’t tried BTB much, which why I’m here. I’ve heard lots of great stuff about this place. I don’t read Baseball Prospectus much because I’d rather not pay right now, I did get last years annual though. The Book, great stuff. I’ve learned you have to read the comments on that site, Tango doesn’t write huge articles. Lastly, THT, just got the Annual recently. Enjoy it, myself.
I’m gonna post of my articles but it’s gonna be an older one regarding Pujols signing because it’s my best one and I haven’t posted recently due to school and other things.
This last edition of
Ron Shandler’s Baseball Forecaster isn’t half bad either. It’s definitely fantasy-driven, but it uses Sabermetrics to support it’s conclusions. Aside from projections it also hosts a few articles.

I see this done every now and then, and for whatever reason, it really sticks in my craw. I mean certainly there are far worse crimes one could commit, but I really want to know who’s responsible for the proliferation of this bad habit. It wouldn’t be a violent confrontation or anything, I would just be like, “dude.” That’s it.
Abbreviating
I guess I shoulda abbreviated sabermetrics as saber or something, haha. I know the difference, I was just being lazy I guess.
