I love the work that Erik Manning, Steve Sommer, and Andy Beard are doing over at Gas House Graphs (formerly Play a Hard Nine). It's probably my favorite blog dedicated to a team I have no vested interest in. I wrote a guest post there that went up this morning, and it's related to the wWAR work I've been doing here. I invite you to check it out.

This is awesome.

Colin mentioned in the Passan/Voros thread that good writing is about telling stories. Great story-telling here. Especially love the “did you realize Edmonds has a .900 career OPS” part.

Thanks man.

And I was among those who failed to notice the .900 OPS. It’s just crazy how that entire portion of his game has been overlooked.

Fantastic work, Adam!

Sometimes I forget that you can write just as well as you can infograph. Yes, I just used infograph as a verb.

Glad to see this up here

Edmonds really was an incredible player. He probably doesn’t make the Hall, and that’s going to be unfortunate because he really deserves it.

Honestly, I wonder why people back in the day weren’t nearly as excited about a plus defensive center fielder with 35-45 HR power and elite on-base skills. These days, people would be falling head over heels for a guy like Edmonds.

Baseball is my preferred sport. It should be yours, too.

Nice catch

It’s strange… I brought this point in a Rob Neyer chat earlier this week. He was talking about how Scott Rolen is a Hall of Famer and I brought up Edmonds’ case (which I think is slightly stronger).

On a side note I’m very excited about wWAR, which is of course also how I came to look at Edmonds. If you look at his contemporary position players in terms of wWAR he ranks behind only: Bonds, A-Rod, Pujols, Griffey, Bagwell, Chipper, and Thomas. Pretty elite company, no?

Why are people so irrationally critical of Jim Edmonds?

Some in-laws, who are intelligent people whom I respect, tried to tell me recently when I brought up the Edmond-to-HOF thing, that he wasn’t quite as good as Mike Cameron. I didn’t even know how to respond to that, other than to reply in a shocked voice, “Are you kidding me, he is way better than Mike Cameron!” I couldn’t summon my wits about me quickly enough to describe why he is, but I feel it should be obvious.

Albert Pujols does not have "down" years. He has "~6 WAR" years.
