He wasnt that awful
Granted the last 3 years of the deal worked out pretty badly, but the first 2 paid for almost the entire contract.
The Royals got a heck of a lot more out of him than the Brewers did with Suppan, or the Yankees did with Pavano. Its not really a “worst of all time” contracts.
According to Fangraphs and Cots, he was worth $47m and paid $41m.
So, there’s that.

Yeah...
It’s hard to call the deal a complete failure when he was so good in the first two years of the deal.
The length of the contract might have been a tad long, but that front office did properly recognize that Meche could be far better than he’d been.
Baseball is my preferred sport. It should be yours, too.
