League was one of the guys that I targeted too

The emergence of his change-up last year really seemed to turn him into a different pitcher. And you gotta like how much xFIP likes him.

If only he could figure out how to induce pop-ups, League has induced just THREE infield flies of the 865 batters he’s faced in his MLB career, and just one against the last 512 batters he’s faced. He induces groundballs, misses bats and showed improved command last season. Nice pick.

Saw Cards/Fish today, here is my report:

My apologies to anyone not interested, but I thought I’d share my experiences with you all:

CARDS

- Felipe Lopez looked pretty rusty, almost as if he just joined the team or something…

- Albert Pujols struck out twice, once missing badly on few breaking balls from Josh Johnson, and once looking at what he thought was ball four from Clay Hensley (I spent $16M on him!).

- Colby Rasmus made some nice plays in center, and had a majestic HR to right off of Josh Johnson.

MARLINS

- Chris Coghlan made a few hustle plays on the bases and in the outfield, and looked the best out of anyone on the field.

- Hanley Ramirez thew a routine ball to first about five feet over Logan Morrison (who is pretty tall). This happens from time-to-time with him, but it showed me how dangerous it can be to work as a dugout photographer.

- Logan Morrison looked terrible. He was missing off-speed pitches by miles and made some really poor decisions at first. He also dropped some warm-up throws for some reason.

- Josh Johnson also looked pretty bad. His control was maybe the worst I have ever seen out of him.

OFF THE FIELD

- I bought tickets the night before and got third row right next to the Cards’ dugout, with a full view of their bench. The Marlins were technically the home team, but it felt like I was sitting in the middle of Missouri.

- After explaining how good Cards fans are, my girlfriend asked if they were “the Canadians of baseball fans.” I replied: Yes. Yes, they are.

- Lou Brock signed more autographs than anyone on the field.

- Lou Brock and Bob Gibson must be good friends, because they were talking in the dugout all day.

- Albert Pujols and Yadier Molina must be good friends, because they were talking in the dugout all day.

- Matt Holliday has a huge head.

By my count...

Round 24 should end tonight, but there have been some slow picks.

Can 9AM EST tomorrow = start of round 25?

by WeNeedDavidJustice on Mar 10, 2010 8:22 PM EST reply actions

I won't be able to get on during the day tomorrow

I have no idea if I’m up or not, but I’m going to make my 24th Rd selection now…

by jar75 on Mar 10, 2010 8:48 PM EST reply actions

Fine with me!

I think I’ll hold off and do mine tomorrow morning…

by WeNeedDavidJustice on Mar 10, 2010 9:12 PM EST up reply actions

Wait, who's pick is it now?

Did WeNeedDavidJustice’s time run out? Then it’d be my pick considering that Jeff told us to skip his pick.

By my count, yes, your turn just started.

I’ll stick around because I know who I’m taking, so we can go through ours right together.

by philkid3 on Mar 11, 2010 3:58 PM EST up reply actions

Very nice pick.

I felt like he fell under the radar a little bit after his contract got restructured. For a long while I was planning on picking him late in the draft, obviously I opted for a different route.

Why did 6 and 9 go?

I was going to pick Rolen. I call Shenanigans.

by WeNeedDavidJustice on Mar 11, 2010 4:17 PM EST reply actions

Were you skipped unfairly?

I thought that 24.03 had already gone, it’s been more than two hours, and Jeff’s spot got skipped. And the guys between me and philkid haven’t been around for a while. (Sky! Where are you? Make your picks!)

That’s how I understood it.

by Satchel Price on Mar 11, 2010 4:23 PM EST up reply actions

24.03 picked out of order, so I didn't see it.

I thought there would be four hours from 24.02’s pick for me to make mine. I checked at 2:00 and didn’t want to pick out of order like everyone else has been.

by WeNeedDavidJustice on Mar 11, 2010 4:24 PM EST up reply actions

By my count you were off the clock even if his pick didn't count.

Viktor started the day at 6:51 PST (9:51). That put Chief on the clock until 8:51 PST (11:51). Fierce didn’t make up his picks before that time, so it then skips to Jar. If we don’t count his pick, that means you’re on the clock at 10:51 (1:51). Jeff asked to be skipped, so then that puts Satchel on the clock at 12:51 (3:51). Since Sky and Tom have outstanding picks, that puts me after Satchel.

Chief, Jar and you were the only people without outstanding picks or asking to be skipped between Viktor and Satchel. That’s 6 hours, and Satchel picked more than 6 hours later.

This is without taking the time to figure out which picks were actually on the clock yesterday, so it very well could have been much farther beyond that. But, at the very least, Satchel was on the clock.

by philkid3 on Mar 11, 2010 4:32 PM EST up reply actions

The 24.03 pick threw me off. It was picked out of order.

1:16 EST + 4 hours = 5:16 end time for my pick.

I would have picked at 2:00

by WeNeedDavidJustice on Mar 11, 2010 4:36 PM EST up reply actions

Even if it wasn't picked out of order, by my count, his time was skipped.

If that pick is counted, then I picked after my time had been passed and I think viktor is back on the clock.

I’m working this out right now.

by philkid3 on Mar 11, 2010 4:38 PM EST up reply actions

When do I have to pick by?

as pick number 10?

and WTF sky disappearing?

by staplemaniac on Mar 11, 2010 4:39 PM EST up reply actions

I'm trying to make sure, but it's possible you're already off the clock.

I’m going through the last couple rounds to confirm, but it depends on if jar’s pick is counted or not. I feel it shouldn’t be, since his time has been passed and we can go ahead and give it to him now.

By my count, you’re on the clock until 6:10, but I’m going through to make sure.

by philkid3 on Mar 11, 2010 4:43 PM EST up reply actions

I thought that you were the one who said that jar could make his Rd. 24 pick last night?

Fine with me!

I think I’ll hold off and do mine tomorrow morning…

After I said that people started picking, too

I proposed trying to re-start the order, but there was no interest.

Basically, I’m getting screwed for giving people a chance to pick.

by WeNeedDavidJustice on Mar 11, 2010 5:00 PM EST up reply actions

Sorry if I screwed this up guys

I wasn’t able to get on during the day today and it had been quite some time since the draft was actually moving. I think we have all eclipsed our actual draft slot.

by jar75 on Mar 11, 2010 5:54 PM EST up reply actions

You didn't.

If your pick was counted or not none of the picks since then would have been out of turn.

ChiefJamesP has not been caught up for a long time.

And I went through and followed the draft starting from the last pick I know was made on the clock and put the results I found above. By those SFierceX4 went on the clock at 2:05 today.

It was a lot of work, so there may well be an error.

by philkid3 on Mar 11, 2010 6:17 PM EST up reply actions

sorry for inconsistent participation

i have been in the virgin islands on work, thought i could keep up with internet access, but its been too tough, and a while since i could even get online at all; i have had some friends try to pick for me in my absence…i thought once i got skipped once it was cool to skip me everytime until i asked back in, but anyway, continue to skip me for now, i will catch up in a few days when i get back

by chiefjamesp on Mar 11, 2010 6:21 PM EST up reply actions

Please don't take that as an admonishment.

I understand and don’t have a problem with it. I was just pointing it out.

by philkid3 on Mar 11, 2010 6:47 PM EST up reply actions

And IF that's correct, you're now on the clock.

Until 8:56.

I am cool with freezing things until Jeff can straighten them out, though.

my only gripe is

that i had already picked nick massett…other than that, i say game on! also, i can’t believe arod got picked! thats awesome!

by chiefjamesp on Mar 11, 2010 6:23 PM EST reply actions

If my list is correct, then I should be on the clock until just before 11 tomorrow.

I’m going to wait on my pick to see if Jeff comes by and has any imput. If not, I’ll make my last pick but if he’s able to point out an error in the above I’ll understandably turn it back over.

by philkid3 on Mar 12, 2010 5:33 AM EST reply actions

Sorry, all. Keep skipping me and I'll try to catch up tomorrow.

Wait, did JJ Hardy just go in the 25th round? I was going to take him in like the 13th but didn’t have enough money left.

Guess how much money I had for my final pick? Exactly $5.1M.

If this is a good pick, then Minaya really screwed up

Mejia belongs in Double-A developing his offspeed stuff and command.

The idea that the Mets would take a 20 year old with ace potential and put him in the bullpen is mind blowing. It’s not even like those guys have earned the benefit of the doubt.

Not trying to be critical by any means, and when you're talking about Vlad Guerrero there's obviously upside

But I still saw guys on the open market making less than Guerrero that I would’ve preferred. And these were guys that I was looking at, as I had $5.1M left for my final pick; I went with Hardy.
