BABIP

I just have a simple question and figured this would be the place to ask it. League-average BABIP is not the same for hitters and pitchers. It was .299 for hitters in 2009 and .303 for pitchers (per FanGraphs). I accept this, but when asked why that is, I didn't have an answer. I don't like not being able to answer the questions of people actually interested in sabermetrics, so. . . anyone able to help?
