Was there any rational reason for me to do so? Why the $&%# did I pass on Stephen Drew?
Ugh.
You made the Zach Sanders pick

Haha
Seattle catcher, has a good chance to win the starting job from Rob Johnson (or at least split time). Good pop and a little upside.
One of the interesting “wait and see” things about this draft will be whether punting catching like I did is a good strategy.
I came in expecting to punt catching.
But then I couldn’t resist Miguel Montero in round 10. I really home Chris Snyder spends plenty of quality time warming the bench.
By my count
Perfectstrat has timed out, and PWHjort has 13 minutes tomorrow morning to make his pick.

(With the exception being Alberto Callaspo.) The Royals are just so poorly managed and are treated by a high school medical staff. I think it best to stay away. That being said, Soria’s a great pitcher. I’m just concerned about the terrible management of players by the Royals, and think that may hinder their performance.

Proposal
We are now getting towards the end of the draft where it doesn’t matter so much if you get skipped… any interest in cutting the pick time down to 1 hour?
No, but we can start trying to enforce the "Three Strike" rule
If you time out three times, you can automatically be skipped from every pick then on out.
I don’t think we need to start worrying about it, though, since we are moving at a pretty good pace right now, and two hours isn’t that long of a time window.
by Zach Sanders on Mar 2, 2010 12:32 AM EST up reply actions
This is the first I've heard of the three strike rule.
I much prefer a shorter time window to the three strike rule. I bet half the league has timed out 3 times… that would result in anarchy.

$2 million for salary and $2.5 for his signing bonus?
From Cots:
- 4 years/$15.1M (2009-12)
* signed Major League contract with Washington 8/17/09
* $7.5M signing bonus
(paid in 3 installments of $2.5M, 9/1/09, 1/10/10, 1/10/11)

Their bonuses should have been/were included (hopefully) in the spreadsheet.
Also, going back that many rounds this late is going to cause real problems with people expecting to pay a certain amount.
There's a difference between a draft bonus and an MLB signing bonus.
Strasburg signed a MLB deal.
Draft bonuses are paid then and there and should not be considered. MLB signing bonuses effect salary distribution and it’s arguable whether or not they should be considered.
Does anyone have a link to the thread in which the rules on this are published/discussed? I’ve tried searching and haven’t found much.
Either way I’m keeping Strasburg, but I’d like to know for sure if he’s owed $2 million or $4.5 million before my next pick. Could matter a lot.

Apologies to non-college football fans and those from inferior schools.
Both have time left
SteveSlow times out at 11:00, Dempsey times out at 1:00
RedRobot made his pick late off the clock last night, so the clock starts at the beginning of the day. Either SteveSlow or Dempsey can select Bulger, if they like.

I have been wondering when Crush Davis would go for rounds now.
I love his offensive potential for standard fantasy leagues, but couldn’t sell myself on his upside in this format.
I don’t love the pick, myself. Wasn’t much left in the way of position players. Figured I’m better off just taking the cheapest power hitter and spending $6 million on my last 3 picks (all relievers).

With one round left, there is still $31M on the table, by my calculations.
Surprising. That’s more than $2.5M/team, just a tad more than the average $2.4M/player we were allotted. I am interested to see who these “replacement level” multi-million earners are.

This pick really surprised me.
If you don’t mind my asking, why did you go for Ross over Shane Victorino? Obviously you had a ton of alternatives as the high stack, but I thought the Flyin’ Hawaiian looked like the clear choice.
I like Ross' chances to be much better defensively this year
It is definitely a close call, and I love Victorino. I think most people in this draft are using CHONE more than any other projection system (at least that is the sense I get), and CHONE is lower on Ross than any other system. I also use my own UZR projections, which paint a different picture.
Of course, I could be wrong. We’ll just have to see.
by Tommy Bennett on Mar 9, 2010 7:59 PM EST up reply actions
All valid points.
My thought process was less detailed than comparing projection systems or flavors of UZR; I just think they have similar upside but Ross has much more downside. If they both slump for the first half, Victorino keeps running out there but Ross could easily find himself warming the bench.
