I sent a queue to Jeff

I’m going to be gone for the rest of the night and it will likely be my pick in the near future so I sent a draft list to Jeff.

out of curiosity

if we play a player who is eligible at multiple positions at a position that he does not play much in 2010, we still get whatever wins he is worth, right? I was wondering if the positional adjustment would be altered for the position we use him at, but that seems crazy

I was deciding between Butler/Morales vs. Pujols

I decided to throw my money around, and the cheapies go immediately thereafter…hmmm

by WeNeedDavidJustice on Feb 25, 2010 9:38 PM EST up reply actions

I was wavering between Butler and Morales

Does it relieve anyone else to know that you’re thinking along the same lines? I’ve never done a draft like this and I don’t know if I’m doing suck or not.

7.07 Max Scherzer SP DET

Alex Gordon was the guy I was hoping for here. And sorry for the delay, I just spent 1.5 hours shoveling my driveway because my plow guy never showed up.

by Sky Kalkman on Feb 26, 2010 11:06 AM EST reply actions

After the comments that Josh Byrnes made

I’m very interested to see how Scherzer does this year. He talked about Max as if he wasn’t really established as a ML starter yet, even though he posted a 3.88 xFIP in 170 innings and a 3.2 WAR last season. Clearly there were some legitimate concerns about him, so I’m curious to see how that one plays out, especially because I like Scherzer.

by Satchel Price on Feb 26, 2010 11:51 AM EST up reply actions

Me too

He’s been very good as a starter, and I like him quite a bit. I would have pulled the trigger on him if it weren’t for the lingering opinion that his delivery will land him in the bullpen.

This pick could be an absolute steal if Scherzer is healthy all season and stays in the Tigers’ rotation.

by Jeff Reese on Feb 26, 2010 12:00 PM EST up reply actions

The upside on this pick is huge

if his power and defensive metrics return to previous levels. 2009 was rough for him, and he still posted a 3.4 WAR though, so the floor probably isn’t too low on Wright.

by Satchel Price on Feb 26, 2010 11:52 AM EST up reply actions

I like Cain a lot

but his xFIP and SIERA marks beg some questions. Then again, the guy has posted WARs of 3.5, 4.0, 3.7 and 3.6 in the past four seasons, so he’s probably a pretty good bet.

I just realized I made a computing error.

by staplemaniac on Feb 26, 2010 3:42 PM EST up reply actions

Not a bad pick, given what Holliday's going to probably do.

I wouldn’t be surprised if you’re getting than $2.5M per WAR at that price, with a decent chance at more.

i wasn't really trying to criticize, rather

I can basically say that I think almost all of the teams look great…I might even trade mine for half of the other teams in the league, and I think most others would agree. The different strategies, whatever they are, are yielding great teams.

I'm a Rays fan

Concerned about homerism, but their entire starting rotation’s making like under 8 million (combined), with tons of upside. I wouldn’t be disappointed with 4/5 of them plus Halladay.

by staplemaniac on Feb 27, 2010 12:12 PM EST up reply actions

I've been eyeing Price for a couple of rounds

But the inexperienced yet talented SPs were staying on the board so I figured I might as well wait on them a bit longer.

I suspect I could have waited on him for a while and still gotten him.

I’m wondering how many radars he was actually on. I wanted to go ahead and get back under budget, though, and didn’t want to risk missing out on him.

Plus, I needed a Ranger.

Yeah I was impressed

I’m not really sure if he can continue to pitch that well, but I basically decided to go cheap/upside for my starting pitchers. And since none of them will likely rack up 200+ innings (except maybe Wainwright), I can probably fit an extra starter or two onto my roster and still be under the IP limit. We’ll see how it turns out.
