BoaB Zack Greinke Division - Pre Draft Discussion
It's that time of year. Time to get ready to start out Ball on a Budget draft.
After the jump is the draft order for our division. This was done by random.org, so don't blame me if you don't get the pick you wanted. To clarify for everyone rounds 1-5 will be done in traditional snake fashion, then it will revert back to a normal draft, with the team picking last in the first round (#12) picking first in every round thereafter.
The other big thing is our Google Spreadsheet. The link to the spreadsheet is also after the jump, and it will be used to help clarify picks in the draft, and to help you manage your roster and payroll. The first tab is the main draft board, where you will enter you pick once it is made. Each team also has it's own tab so you can see what your current roster is and how much money you have left to spend on players.

Oh, man, you should see my research
It’s going to involve opening up the salaries spreadsheet, creating a new column called WV (win value), eye balling a figure that seems somewhat close to me (based on nothing scientific, primarily just betting on talent), dividing that by salary, and assuming it’s a flawless metric to base a draft on.
You can’t beat that strategy. Do the math, it checks out.

Clearly, Jose Guillen, Barry Zito, and Yuniesky Betancourt will all go 1,2,3 respectively.
Carlos Silva follows in a close 4th though. I could be the next Mel Kiper!

That's odd, because I don't see a clear #1 here...
Of course, I haven’t done any prep and I didn’t play last year, so I currently have no clue how the $/win framework works in this setup. Or positional scarcity. Hmmm… maybe I should look into that.
Take my honest opinion:
Yuniesky Betancourt is the clear outlier. Even though I have him going 3 in my mock draft, he is by far the youngest and has the highest upside. His projection is literally off the charts.

and I’m not kidding, if I have the chance I will.
Should we impose a rule that someone must take a "bust" contract?
I think it would be pretty cool. It would lower payroll, and be awesome at the same time.
Interesting idea
No way we do it this year, though. Too hard to define and we’d have to add in some extra money in payroll.
