Ron Santo vs. Hall of Fame Median
Not only was Ron Santo an above average baseball player, he would have been (and will some day be) an above average Hall of Fame baseball player. I just wish he could have been there to take part.
I'm pretty sure that this year us stat geeks will be responsible for our first Hall of Famer in Bert Blyleven. Let's make Santo #2.

I have not. And thank you!
I’ve been working on it for something else. But sometimes something takes precedence and you want to “commemorate” the first use.

I just love the simplicity
I also have always liked the idea of WAE and WAM, so this is just a wonderful combination.
Well, that's the median for each metric, so not the same player.
But I found that it’s damn near Tim Raines.
Median:
WAR: 58.0
WAE: 21.5
WAM: 2.6
Raines:
WAR: 64.6
WAE: 21.4
WAM: 2.3

I think it's time we bring back the GotW, Adam.
Between the Visuals Above Replacement and the three Pitchf/x guys, there’s a lot of great stuff every week.

Are these only for position players?
Or does it include all players. Don’t pitchers have a tougher time accumulating WAR nowadays because the era they pitch in?
Just to make it clear.
I am a big big fan of this graphic, nice work.
Yes... I denoted that in the graphic I was working on, but forgot to port that over. Good catch.
I’ll be doing a separate “bullseye” for pitchers. And on Monday I just may work from one for just a specific position.

i ran a quick search for HOF third basemen who played at least 50% at third base
lowest WAR is al kaline at 91.0
and you can put it on the boaaaaaard YES, HELL YES
sorry that's wrong
thought that was high
another search shows the median score for HOF third basemen is actually 50.4. there are 12 3b in the HOF.
and you can put it on the boaaaaaard YES, HELL YES
Above 50.4 and not in:
Chipper (80.1)
Santo (66.4)
Rolen (66.1)
Nettles (61.6)
Bell (60.8)
Bando (60.6)
Boyer (58.4)
Evans (57.3)
Ventura (55.5)
Hack (54.8)
Elliot (52.3)
Cey (52.0)
Not saying that all of these guys should be in. But there ARE too few 3B. Wish we could cut some of the fat and add guys who really should be in, like Santo and probably Nettles, Bando, or Bell… or Boyer… or… that’s one of the problems. Beyond Santo, nobody really stands out from the crowd. And you can’t put ’em all in. Can you?

not if you want to restore some luster to the hall
and you can put it on the boaaaaaard YES, HELL YES
Are WAE and WAM calculated such that they can be negative? Or is it any extra war they accumulate above those thresholds, but floored at 0?

No negative values
All it does is record how often (and by how much) a player exceeds a certain threshold (being either 3 wins or 6 wins).

It's what I assumed. Thanks =)
