Let me put into perspective how bad things are for the Pirates—they haven’t been relevant since the 1992 National League Championship Series. The hard luck loser of Game seven was Doug Drabek. His son, Kyle, is now a prospect for Toronto.
That literally means a more effective way for the Pirates to rebuild would have been to take the 1992 team and put them out to stud.

All I can say is WOW at this column. Can anybody comment on the effectiveness of pretending to be interested in a player for appearance purposes? I can't think it would do anything other than backfire.

Doesn't it happen all the time?
My impression is that teams often pretend to be interested in free agents, even though they know they can’t meet the expected asking price, to keep fans interested—and perhaps luck into something.
That column is... ummm.. wow.
It’s sort like someone crossed THT with something dumb from ESPN. It’s pretty horrendous and awfully random.
