Power Rankings Timeline

Riding on the back of Justin's hard work, I wanted to see the evolution of the divisional races in the BtB Power Rankings.  I know the rankings have evolved over time with the inclusion of baserunning and other changes that Justin has made, I was just curious to see how it all worked out over time.  So I present a timeline of the expected league winning percentage for each division.  This eliminates cantankerous league adjustments that gets everyone going, although there is still some bias since the schedule isn't balanced across the entire league.

Some Notes from Captain Obvious:

  • I like the direction of the Cardinals.
  • Sorry about those Reds Justin.
  • That is a quick drop off for the Mets.
  • Are the Diamondbacks really that much better than their record?
  • That AL East is full of juggernauts.

(Sorry Justin if this was something you had planned to show at some point.)

This is awesome.

How about a graph or two showing the relative rankings of some of the top teams: Dodgers, Yankees, Cardinals, Rockies, Angels, etc.

I’d also be interested in how predictive these rankings were. For example, after the first round was posted, how well did they predict future winning percentage, compared to, say BP Third-Order, actual winning percentage itself, and Pythag…

Yes PLEASE do that second paragraph!

I would really be interested in knowing that.

Can you get BP Third-Order for a specific date?

I’ve been working on this but can’t find that.

I’d like June 2nd, June 30th, and July 28th.

Go to Archives.net

I’ve used in in multiple articles here to extract historical third order wins.
