Star-divide

With Carlos Pena out for the season with two broken fingers, can Mark Teixeira take the AL Home Run Crown? Does Jason Bay make a run, or does Russell Branyan complete his unlikely season and put some distance in between himself and Nelson Cruz?

Worth the Money?

I voted for Teixeira

(but I’m rooting for Nelson Cruz).

What can I say? I’m a sucker for people that I drafted on my fantasy team (and for whom I predicted success).

Nobody cares about your fantasy team.

But I will say that having Branyan, Pena, and Aaron Hill on my AL-only team certainly helped the HR category.

Putting a money-line on Tex vs. Pena is an interesting question. I’d guess 50/35/15 Pena/Tex/tie.

My fantasy team would destroy yours.

You think Tex can’t get 4 homers in 3 weeks? He’s averaging around 1.46 per week.

x3 = 4.375.

Hell, this thing could actually be a tie after all. Might be fun to watch.

I'll say Teixeira.

On May 27th, I blogged predicting that Teixeira would go .301/110/40/120. Who knows what his average clocks in at, but his pace for 104/40/123 is pretty damn close, so I’ll stick with my prediction and say he grinds out five more HRs.

And yes, those will be for my fantasy team.

True, true.

Well, actually we do an auction format, 21 players, $240 budget. I had my bargains in Adam Lind and Asdrubal Cabrera for a dollar =)

Cruz, though, phenomenal. I went out on some boom-or-bust picks, so I didn’t want to place my money on another on there, but it worked out.

Why do you hate Bay?

You couldn’t find a shot of him putting bat to ball in a Red Sox uni? ;)

I was thinking the same thing.

Tex is in a Yankee uni. Branyan in a Mariner uni.

Spiffy graph.

Is it me,

or do those numbers look way down for this time of year?

I used to work with an old man that told me. Son, every workplace has a dumbass, if you don't have one where you work, then I'm afraid you're it.

In the senior circuit

it goes:

1. Albert Pujols, STL 47
2. Mark Reynolds, ARI 41
3. Prince Fielder, MIL 38
4. Ryan Howard, PHI 38
5. Adrian Gonzalez, SDG 37

which is probably more what you would expect.

NL HR Chase coming next week.

I figured we could let Albert go for 50 first, and maybe Fielder and Howard can sort themselves out.

Branyan is out indefinitely with a herniated disk.

Could come back around the 15th, but it’s no sure thing that he’ll play again this year.

Can you spot the five guys NOT in the Hall of Fame? It's easy, I separated 'em for ya. :)

Here's the full post about guys elected to the Hall of Fame primarily for their defense. Guys like Brooks Robinson, Ozzie Smith, Bobby Wallace, John Ward, and Bid McPhee stand up as definite HOFers, with many others worthy of debate (and a couple aren't worth any debate at all).

I almost made it through the whole post without comparing some HOFers to our friends Bill Dahlen, Lou Whitaker, Bobby Grich, Alan Trammell, and Ron Santo. Almost.
