I'd heard about this.
Does the different release point not make it easier to pick up?

I don't think the release point is actually different.
If you continue those flight paths to the right they’d be a lot closer together around the 55 feet mark, which is closer to where he would have actually released it.
That’s how I interpret it, anyway. The slow curve is flipped upward before it loops down.
