Great Graphs
The sinker is a very good pitch. Pretty much the same as a split finger fast ball though

My guesses (and these are reaches):
Sinkers end up in the strike zone more often. That also means they’re probably swung at more often, which is nice, even though splitters probably get more whiffs.
Also, you can’t throw splitter after splitter, because it’s most effective below the zone and once people stop swinging, it’s worthless because it’s not a strike. This would imply splitters in the zone get eaten. Makes sense, but I don’t know if it’s true.

Lefties seem to throw pitches than break an extra half-inch to an inch than their right-handed counterparts. Any reason why that might be the case?
by Tommy Bennett on Jul 18, 2009 2:09 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
in the downward direction
I should have said

Actually, all the lefty pitches are move vertically further than their righty counterparts, with the exception of the sinker.
Weird. Maybe baseball is meant to be played lefty – better pitches, better swings, etc.

Yes, lefties are definitely better at everything.

20 years from now, BtB will get sued because someone tried to force their kid to do everything lefty...
Because the kid will go crazy like the quarterback bust whose father tied his right arm behind his back – can’t remember or find his name.

Gotta compare these to Buch’s.

For use as a background on Pitch F/X chart:

Fill in the circles with whatever color you want to use to correspond with the pitches on your graph. Just make sure you keep it as a PNG so that it keeps the clear background.

Alright, I’ll try to post them as FanShots. Anyone know of a better PNG host than Picture Dumper?

Thanks for making these
I’m probably going to stick with four dots (F2,F4,SL,CU) since they are the most consistent (change-ups can be anything, as can cutters) and are the basic stakes in the ground.

No problem.
Although I’m pretty sure someone else can do a much better job than I did – never try to do stuff after bowling for 3 hours in a full alley, past midnight, with music blaring and random lights flashing everywhere.

Catching up
Harry, are these classifications based off of Gameday’s or your own?
