Around SBN: Interview With UMD Athletic Director, Dr. Debbie Yow

Another list of "what in the world got into them?"

There was a post a few days back on MLBers suddenly sucking or owning, I think they missed a few though.

Ben Zobrist : Ladys and Gentlemn, meet your most valuable 2B in the major league so far, mr Chase... Ut... errr what? Ben Zobrist?  the two are virtually tied neck and neck .  Zobrist was always a guy that looked like a solid but not spetacular prospect. but for some reason he's being possesed by the spirit of Roger Hornsby so far this year. in a division that has Pedroia / Cano / Hill / Roberts. I don't think anyone picked Ben Zobrist to be heads and shoulder above the rest of the division .

Jason Bartlett :  So a year after we laughed at the Rays writer picking Jason Bartlett for being team MVP, he's stuffing a big cup of STFU down our throat. he is so far just as valuable as Derek Jeter .  and this is NOT because Derek Jeter's declining,  if Jeter finish the season on this pace he will probably pass his 2006 WAR total, when he was robbed of a MVP.

Marco Scutaro :  But wait, there is ANOTHER SS in the ALE that's also just as valuable as Jeter and Bartlett, it's Nomar.. errr wait, it's Alex Rod.. errr no,  it's Marco Scutaro???? the career utility guy  is already posing half a win more than his career best season in just half a season, at age 34. what in the world????

If anyone was robbed of an AL MVP award in in 2006 it was Grady Sizemore.

Morneau wasn’t the right choice obviously, but Sizemore was easily the best player in the AL that year.

I think the reason Morneu get the award was because

he and joe maur carried that team to the playoffs when no one thought they could. That team was a bunch of backups, Joe Mauer, Justin Mornoeu, and Johan Santana

Then why didn't Mauer get it?

Or Santana for the matter? They both had much better seasons then Morneau.

Derosa.

I don't know

maybe because Morneu was batting 4th? but there are many more reasons for the award

Scuataro was always one of my favorites

And he got the chance to play everyday. He showed his best and this is what it is.

Can you spot the five guys NOT in the Hall of Fame? It's easy, I separated 'em for ya. :)

Here's the full post about guys elected to the Hall of Fame primarily for their defense. Guys like Brooks Robinson, Ozzie Smith, Bobby Wallace, John Ward, and Bid McPhee stand up as definite HOFers, with many others worthy of debate (and a couple aren't worth any debate at all).

I almost made it through the whole post without comparing some HOFers to our friends Bill Dahlen, Lou Whitaker, Bobby Grich, Alan Trammell, and Ron Santo. Almost.
