My Hardball Times debut is up, sporting this lovely graph (thanks, Mr. Quick). I discussed four players from 2008, all of which produced like an average player over a full season (~2.3 WAR), but in very different ways. Akinori Iwamura seemingly had no strengths and no weaknesses, Carlos Gomez was a hole at the plate but a stud in the field, Jermaine Dye was the antithesis of Gomez, and Jerry Hairston, Jr. was more impressive than everyone when he played but only racked up 300 plate appearances. Average, average, average, average. But not similar at all. For those interested, I'll be contributing a piece to THT every two weeks -- enough to matter, but not enough to distract from BtB.
