Graph of the Day: Jim Edmonds, Hall of Famer (?)
Using Sean Smith's WAR numbers, JBrew put this together over at VEB. Seasons are sorted from best to worst, left to right. Average is the median WAR total of HoFamers in their Xth best season and replacement uses the 20th percentile.

I don’t know what the story is, exactly, but his not playing for a team this year is/was truly a missed opportunity to add to this.
Merkin Valdez? Manuel Mateo? A rose by any other name...

How was the replacment level line calculated?
I’ve seen it in different HOF graphs, but don’t know where it came from.
Thanks

Interesting that so few people voted for Undecided with the high number of votes on either side of that option.
Right now it’s
41 Yes with thought
16 Undecided
60 No but not crazy

There was a discussion about this over at BBTF a few weeks ago

And re-reading that thread I had forgotten that I had decided I'd vote for Edmonds
So I’d like to change my vote from undecided to “Yes with thought”

Are my royalities in the mail?
Not first ballot (that’s sacred!!) but I like his chances.

Anyone want to combine on a for/against piece on Edmonds DESERVING to be a HoFamer?
Meaning, we’d totally ignore whether or not the BBWAA will actually vote him in? I’d be up for a Mussina debate piece, too. I’d probably want to write the FOR viewpoint.

I would vote for him
He has had a classic high peak career that gets undervalued by counting stats.

Does this include defense?
That sucker robbed me of an easy double. One of the greatest catches in history. Diving toward right field about 3 1/2 feet off the ground and laid out – never seen anybody jump that far like that.
